History

Terry and Kitty Colligan started their baking careers in 1983.  They purchased the Manawa Pastry Shop, Manawa, Wisconsin and opened for business on March 8, 1983.  The only experience that they had was Kitty had done some cake decorating out of their home in Scandinavia.  Terry had been a truck driver until that point.  They were very fortunate to have two current employees of the Manawa Pastry Shop continue working in the shop.  Terry and Kitty attended any seminar, convention or baking conference they could to learn more about the industry.

In August of 1984, the Colligan's opened an outlet on Main Street in Waupaca, Wisconsin.  That outlet is still open but the location changed to Churchill Street in 1999.  There are five employees at that location.

In December of 1990, Terry and Kitty had outgrown their location in Manawa.  All production was done at the Manawa facility, which was only 2400 sq. feet.  They relocated to 3004 Mall Road in Plover, did all the remodeling, and opened for business in January 1991.  The facility was 6500 sq. feet.  

Through the years, Terry and Kitty have both won awards for their kringles, brownies, breads and wedding cake decorating.  In 2001 Colligan's Bakery was chosen the "Bakery Operation of the Year"  by the Wisconsin Bakers Association.  They were the first recipients of this award.

In April 2004 Lokre Development purchased the building that our Plover location occupied.  They developed the entire area around us and notified us that they had plans to tear our building down to allow for new businesses.  In December of 2006 we relocated our production facility to 1733 West River Drive, Stevens Point.  Colligan's Bakery & Cafe was opened on April 25th 2007 on 2201 Division Street, Stevens Point.  We offer a full line of our fresh bakery products, homemade soup and sandwiches, coffee, cappuccino, tea, and soda.  Free wireless internet is also available to our customers.

Terry and Kitty are both active in their baking industry and community.  Terry is Vice President on the executive board at Valley Bakers Association Cooperative, and Past President on the Wisconsin Bakers Association board.  Kitty was also on the Board of Governors at Wisconsin Bakers Association.  She is also on the church council and a Sunday school teacher at their church.  Terry and Kitty have hosted "Baker's Forum" at their bakery several times.  These are held to exchange ideas and formulas with other bakers in the industry.  Colligan's Bakery is a member of the Waupaca Chamber of Commerce and the Plover Area Business Association.
